YMCA Bedfordshire SleepEasy March 2017
Event on 2017-03-03 19:00:00
Sleep Easy is a YMCA fundraising initiative raising money to help change the lives of vulnerable people. Since the event began in 2010, almost £1million pounds have been raised by hundreds of people across the UK who chose to sleep rough for just one night to support their local YMCAs. The aim is simple: spend a night sleeping rough at our event headquarters to highlight the issue of homelessness and raise vital funds to support our work as your local YMCA. To take part in SleepEasy 2017 you must be 10 or over (if you are under 10 check out how you can get involved as a SleepEasy SofaSurfer) and be in relatively good health. The Event starts at 7pm with participants leaving no earlier than 6am the next morning. You can come alone and make new friends or bring a group of friends with you; children 16 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult. If you haven’t taken part before please see our list of recommended items to bring with you as well as the terms and conditions for the event, both of which can be found on the SleepEasy page on our website. This year we are offering 3 ways to get involved Classic SleepEasy 2017 For those of us who simply want to sleep out so that others don't have to, the classic SleepEasy experience gives you that opportunity. Turn up with your bedding and we will provide you with additional cardboard to make a shelter or sleeping mat out of. Within your SleepEasy zone we will provide food and drinks for you. There will be fun and games to take part in, if you so wish, or you can simply gather around the warm fire before bedding down for the night. SleepEasy Extreme For the first time we are offering 50 people the opportunity to sign up to SleepEasy Extreme! For those that are feeling adventurous, SleepEasy Extreme will be an area away from the main sleepout zone where you will experience a more realistic night as a rough sleeper. For most sleeping rough means not knowing where your next meal will come from or if you will be asked to move from where you have bedded down. It means having very little and trying to make the most of what's around you. If you sign up for SleepEasy Extreme you will have to forage for items to make your shelter from what you find around the zone. Want a drink or some food then you’ll need to busk for 5 minutes in order to raise the tokens needed to buy them. Your busking could be a song, a silly dance, juggling or if all else fails you will simply need to resort to writing a cardboard sign and begging, just don’t get caught by security, whilst they don’t mind buskers they don’t like folk begging! Of course we also reserve the right to wake you up at any point throughout the night and move you on too. Please pack your humour and sense of adventure for this zone! SleepEasy SofaSurfers We are often asked by those under 10 years old if they can take part in our Sleep|Easy events. Whilst we love the heart, compassion and sense of social awareness held by these children and young people we are unfortunately not able to cater for them at the actual event. It saddens us to say no so this got us thinking and we came up with a great idea – SleepEasy Sofa Surfers! If you are under 10 then why not think about highlighting the plight of people who Sofa Surf because they don’t have a home of their own. The actual figures for those who will be sofa surfing on any given night are really unknown as no official records are kept. We would welcome any under 10's to register as a SleepEasy Sofa Surfing and spend the night of Friday 3rd March 2017 sleeping on their own sofa or that of a friend or relative whilst getting your family, teachers and friends to sponsor you . The money raised by our SleepEasy Sofa Surfers will go direclty towards the work we undertake supporting marginalised young people through our Fun 4 Young People afterschool and holiday clubs. To register simply order the approprate number of tickets above from the catagory you wish to participate in, you will be asked to give details for each person you are booking in, then simply click on register. From there follow the simple payment instructions then sit back and wait for an email from us. If you are under 16 it's gonna have to be a parent or guardian that register for you to take part I'm afraid! Once you receive your confirmation email simply follow its instructions and links to our Just Giving account where you can sign up and create your own free YMCA Bedfordshire SleepEasy 2017 sponsorship page. Just Giving is a great way to keep tabs on how your sponsorship is going and also does away with all that chasing around to collect your sponsor money after the event. However if you prefer a sponsorship form please download one from our main YMCA Bedfordshire website. Look for the events page. FAQs Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
