Dope D.O.D. (NLD) • Electro hip hop dubstep

The Casualties, The Vibrators, The Beat Seekers

The Casualties, The Vibrators, The Beat Seekers
Event on 2017-09-21 20:00:00
Black Heart Booking, A-13 Punk Rock and Lookout Lounge Present: The Casualties  The Vibrators The Beat Seekers TBA Thursday, September 21st, 2017 Doors: 7 PM, Show: 7:30 PM ADV/ DOS ALL AGES – Everyone must have a valid ID. Under 18 needs to be accompanied by a parent or guardian or have a notarized parental permission form: ALL SALES ARE FINAL. NO REFUNDS. For show/venue info go to: The Casualties The Casualties formed in 1990 out of a desire to return to the heyday of punk, an era that hung on into the early '80s and then started to fall by the wayside in favor of the very early grunge movement, as well as hair metal, synth pop, and new wave. But the band's lineup was far from stable in the early days. The initial lineup consisted of singers Jorge Herrera and Colin, drummer Yureesh, guitarist Hank, and bassist Mark. Even this inaugural lineup was shaky, with Colin stepping out for several months to finish his education, and Rivits singer Rachel stepping in to take his place. During this period, the Casualties put together a demo. The following year, the core lineup consisted of Colin, Jorge, Yureesh, and Mark. The band added guitarist Fred when Hank dropped out, and went on to make an appearance on the compilation Benefit for Beer. Soon more changes were in the works, with new guitarist Fred heading off to school. C Squat's Scott temporarily filled Fred's shoes until he returned a short time later. During this period, guitarist Hank came and went a second time. Another guitarist, Steve, also played briefly with the group. The Early Years: 1990-1995The Casualties stabilized long enough in the fall of 1991 to put together an EP, 40 Ounce Casualty. By the following year, the band was touring frequently and building up a fan base in their hometown of New York City. In 1993, however, more shakeups were in the works. Guitarist Fred and bassist Mark were out, and Jake Kolatis and Mike were in to take their respective places. The following year, the band appeared on another compilation, Pogo Attack, and put together a second EP, Drinking Is Our Way of Life. The four-track EP was never issued but later was incorporated into the band's 1999 release, Early Years: 1990-1995. Stability remained elusive, and drummer Yureesh and singer Colin dropped out. Shawn stepped in to take Yureesh's place. The group put together a third EP, A Fuckin' Way of Life, in 1995, the same year that Rivits drummer Meggers (aka Mark Eggers) took Shawn's place. For the Punx Temporarily settled in terms of their lineup, the Casualties traveled to London in 1996 for a performance on the stage of the Holidays in the Sun Festival. The following year, the band put out their first full-length album, For the Punx, and embarked on a tour where it supported the Varukers. Unfortunately, the lineup evolved again the following year, when the Krays' bassist, Jon, took over when Mike dropped out. Jon stayed long enough to help out on the Underground Army album, but jumped ship during the band's supporting tour across Europe in 1998. To take his place, the band recruited Dave Punk Core, who only stayed until 1999. With the addition of ex-Manix bassist Rick Lopez, the group started another tour. More tours of the U.S. and Europe followed in 2000 and 2001, along with the albums Who's in Control?, Stay Out of Order, and Die Hards, the last marking their debut on Side One Dummy. On the Front Line appeared in February 2004; two years later, the Casualties preceded Under Attack's late August release with a main stage slot on the Vans Warped Tour. All We Have, the band's eighth studio long player, dropped in 2009, followed by the Season of Mist-issued Resistance in 2012, and Chaos Sound in early 2016. The Vibrators With a career lasting 35 years, vocalist/guitarist IAN "KNOX" CARNOCHAN, bassist PAT COLLIER, guitarist JOHN ELLIS and drummer EDDIE originally formed the VIBRATORS in February 1976, and their first gig was supporting THE STRANGLERS at Hornsey Art College in North London. They supported THE SEX PISTOLS at the 100 CLUB and were one of the bands playing at the now legendary 100 CLUB PUNK ROCK FESTIVAL, where as well as doing their own set they supported guitar hero CHRIS SPEDDING. CHRIS recommended the band to his then record company, RAK. The band's debut single "WE VIBRATE" came out in November (one of the first punk singles) and was followed two weeks later by CHRIS SPEDDING'S "POGO DANCING" single with the VIBRATORS as the band on that. Early in 1977 the band supported IGGY POP (with DAVID BOWIE on keyboards) on a UK tour, then moved to EPIC RECORDS and released the classic "BABY BABY" single, followed by their first album "PURE MANIA" which spent five weeks in the UK Top 75, peaking at number 49. A second single from the album – but a live version – "LONDON GIRLS", came out in the summer of 1977 and was promoted by a tour supporting ex-MOTT THE HOOPLE mainman IAN HUNTER. Bassist PAT COLLIER left soon after and was replaced by GARY TIBBS. The band released the single "AUTOMATIC LOVER" (March 1978), which not only reached 35 in the charts but also got the band on TOP OF THE POPS. A second LP, "V2" was released in April and reached number 33 in the British Charts, and is still regarded today as one of New Waves finest moments. JOHN ELLIS left soon after to follow a solo career and to work with PETER GABRIEL, and was replaced by DAVE BIRCH, whilst a fifth member was added with keyboard/saxophonist DON SNOW. However this line up of the band only recorded the "JUDY SAYS (KNOCK YOU IN THE HEAD)" single (a UK No 70 single in the summer of 1978). There then followed a new line up of the band: KNOX – guitar/vocals, EDDIE – drums, with new members BEN BRIERLY – bass, and GREG VAN COOK – guitar. This again proved to be short lived and KNOX left to have a go at being a solo artist towards the end of 1978. EDDIE carried on with the band, as well as drumming for THE INMATES (an R&B band). In early 1980 a more successful line up : KIP – vocals, EDDIE – drums, IAN WOODCOCK (ex-EATER) – bass, PHIL RAM – guitar, ADRIAN WYATT – guitar, signed to RAT RACE RECORDS. They released two singles "GIMME SOME LOVIN'" and "DISCO IN MOSCO", but the band split up at the end of the year. The original line up reformed in mid 1982 (KNOX, EDDIE, PAT COLLIER and JOHN ELLIS) and signed to ANAGRAM RECORDS, releasing a new version of "BABY BABY". This was followed by a single and album both called "GUILTY" before the band moved to RAM RECORDS, releasing the singles "MX AMERICA" and "FLYING HOME" and the LP "ALASKA 127" (named after PAT COLLIER'S studio). By mid 1985 the band had signed to CARRERE RECORDS for whom they recorded the "BABY BLUE EYES" single before moving back to RAM for the "FIFTH AMENDMENT" LP and "BLOWN AWAY BY LOVE" single. By the time the band signed to FM REVOLVER in mid 1986, PAT COLLIER had left to pursue a successful career producing bands, and was replaced by NOEL THOMPSON for the "VIBRATORS LIVE" LP. JOHN ELLIS then left (to become a full-time member of the STRANGLERS) and was replaced by MICKIE OWEN, and NOEL THOMPSON left and was replaced by MARK DUNCAN. The new line up released the "RECHARGED" album, the "STRING HIM ALONG" single and also the 1988's "MELTDOWN" album. MICKIE OWEN left and was replaced by NIGEL BENNETT (ex-MEMBERS) for the 1990's "VICIOUS CIRCLE" LP. This line up of the VIBRATORS toured regularly, and released a string of albums: "VOLUME TEN" (1990), "THE POWER OF MONEY" (a re-make compilation, 1993), "HUNTING FOR YOU" (1994), and "UNPUNKED" (an acoustic compilation album, 1996). 1990 lineup (left to right) Mark Duncan (bass), Eddie (drums), Knox (guitar/vocals), Nigel Bennett (guitar) In 1996, in their twentieth year, they started with a new line-up: KNOX – guitar/vocals, EDDIE – drums, with newcomers DARRELL BATH (ex- UK SUBS, CRYBABIES, DOGS D'AMOUR) – guitar, and NICK PECKHAM (ex- BIG BOY TOMATO) – bass, but by June that year they had become a three-piece (KNOX, NICK, and EDDIE). The band recorded the albums "FRENCH LESSONS WITH CORRECTION!" (1997) and "BUZZIN'" (1999). with the band doing extensive touring, (almost 100 gigs in 1999 – including the USA and Canada), plus the release of many albums. NICK PECKHAM (bass) left in Sepatember 1999 and was replaced by ROBBIE TART (ex- HEARTBREAK ANGELS). In 2002 the band released a new compilation of the first two albums the band recorded, closely followed by a new studio album ENERGIZE, both on Ian Grant's TRACK RECORDS. In September 2003 ROBBIE TART left and was replaced by PETE from Finnish band No Direction, and the band toured the UK and Europe with the UK Subs, doing really good business. In their long career the VIBRATORS have toured with the likes of IGGY POP, IAN HUNTER, THE FLAMING GROOVIES, DIE TOTEN HOSEN,and have had their songs covered by THE EXPLOITED, UK SUBS, GBH, REM, DIE TOTEN HOSEN, to name but a few. Now in 2011 the band celebrate 35 years of making records and touring heavily. Get ready for another 30 years of PURE MANIA! The Beat Seekers Rock n' Roll aint dead, It's just waking up. In a watered down glass of phony indie pop and cookie cutter rock, The Beat Seekers bring you a shot of genuine American Rock n' Roll. The band is anchored by prolific lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter Keith Fertwagner. With four records released since the bands inception, these guys are no strangers to hard work and good music. The latest release "LOUD AND F**K!NG CLEAR" displays a wide array of influences and subject matter that is not easy to define, but definitely easy to swallow. The songs go from Guns N' Roses style riffing to punk rock anthems with a dash of twang and 70's rock, while still maintaining a modern edge and pop sensibility. Let's just say if music were soup, this batch wouldn't lack ingredients, and it would taste pretty fucking good. Throughout the Beat Seekers existence hardships, setbacks, and dumb luck have only made the fire burn hotter for Keith, and there is a flat out refusal to go away quietly. While there's been no shortage of adversity, there has also been no shortage of the need to overcome it. Some people make music because they want to, but some people do it because they have no other choice. In a world where everything is shiny and plastic, The Beat Seekers offer a healthy dose of something heartfelt and real. The Beatles wanted to hold your hand. The Stones wanted to burn down your town. The Beat Seekers want to hold your hand while burning down your town, taking over the airwaves, and starting a revolution. We're all in this shit together, let's make it count. Keith's songs have been featured in television shows such as 90210, One Tree Hill, Shameless, and Big Love to name a few, as well as movie trailers, video games, and the movie "Warrior". He has also shared the stage with Social Distortion, Joan Jett, Rancid, John Doe, Sum 41, AFI, and many more. With his crew of talented cutups, The Beat Seekers are ready to blaze a new path full of familiar rock and roll nuances.

Roger Creager

Roger Creager
Event on 2017-08-12 21:30:00

For more than a decade, Roger Creager built a reputation on his distinctive brand of hard-core, rabble-rousing Texas Country music, on his rich, full-bodied voice that can carry a tune for miles, and on his exceptional ability to work thousands of Texans into a rabid frenzy with his voice and guitar, in the great concert tradition of Jerry Jeff Walker and Robert Earl Keen. Along the way, he's been writing some mighty fine instant classics about family heirlooms, fields of bluebonnets, and late night trips to Mexico. Four albums, hundreds of thousands of road miles, and an ever-expanding fan base later, Here It Is has Roger Creager laying his cards on the table with thirteen songs that are arguably his best batch yet. "It's been five years since I've put out anything new," Roger says. "So it's five years of evolving and maybe even maturing, although it's still me." Actually, it's more of him than ever. For the first time, he's written or co-written every song on the album. The first single, "I'm From the Beer Joint" plays to Creager's honky-tonk wildcat image informed by his live album, as he declares his preference for independent drinking establishments. "It's not going to change any lives, but it sure is fun," Creager laughs about the sing-along, before turning serious. "But who wants to listen to a whole album of that?" He's aiming for something higher. "I hope there's a song here that penetrates your soul, too," he says, leaning forward. "There's a few that may do just that. I aimed with a shotgun. I really did try to mix it up. There's love songs [Missing You], drinking songs [the aforementioned "Beer Joint"], up-tempo dancing songs [I Love Being Lonesome], groovy little tunes [Tangle Me in You], one about a man who's screwed up and he's driving like hell through the middle of the night to get home [Driving Home]. 'I Loved You When' is my best story song yet. It doesn't even tell the whole story. It doesn't have to. It gives you just enough to know there's a history there. It's all you need to know."The two catalysts behind the album were Lloyd Maines, the go-to producer who produced Creager's first albums, and Radney Foster, the Texas kid from Del Rio, whose songs and productions have established him as one of country music's most innovative and edgy operators. Radney teamed up with Justin Tocket, a talented producer himself, to co-produce this project. But Roger himself is the biggest catalyst of all.The Corpus Christi native was raised on songs like Guy Clark's "Desperadoes Waiting For A Train" and Gary P. Nunn's "You Ask Me What I Like About Texas" and under the influence of Jerry Jeff Walker, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, and Jimmy Buffett, along with Willie, Waylon, Cash, Merle, and even Sinatra. He graduated from college and spent two years in Houston working a 8-5 gig. He finally listened to his heart and moved back to College Station to pursue a life in music. Working without a paycheck was liberating. "I'd always been a slacker," Roger admits, "and I could easily see myself failing in music because I wasn't trying hard enough. So I promised myself that would be one excuse I'd never use. I just got out there and busted my hump."In 1998, he released Having Fun, then blew open the doors two years later with I Got the Guns. The title track, a striking piece about his granddad and his family, became a staple on more than 200 radio stations programming Texas Country Music. Long Way To Mexico and Live Across Texas grew his audience beyond state lines. Here It Is speaks to those broadening horizons. "I was in 14 countries last year," Roger says. "I want to take our music to a wider audience without compromising the integrity of the music. I'm taking some of who I am to where I'm going." "I've always tried to make records where every song is different so I can listen to them over and over again instead of forty five minutes of essentially the same song," he says. With Here It Is, he can do just that. This go-round, he's staying on for the whole ride.

Mindfulness means “paying attention in a particular way; On purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally.” — Jon Kabat Zinn (Professor of Medicine Emeritus Stress Reduction Clinic and the Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine). Modern research about mindfulness and meditation shows that over time and with regular practice, mindfulness offers significant benefits to people including less stress, less anxiety, greater focus, calm and happiness. “Neuroscientists have found that meditators shift their brain activity to different areas of the cortex…This mental shift decreases the negative effects of stress, mild depression and anxiety. …The researchers found that the meditators showed a pronounced shift in activity to the left frontal lobe. In other words, they were calmer and happier than before.” – Psychology Today   THE BENEFITS OF MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION With regular practice and over time, mindfulness and meditation can offer the following benefits. Reduced stress and anxiety Improved sleeping patterns Increased relaxation Greater self-awareness and emotional intelligence Deeper levels of self-acceptance and self-love “Neuroscientists have found that meditators shift their brain activity to different areas of the cortex…This mental shift decreases the negative effects of stress, mild depression and anxiety. …The researchers found that the meditators showed a pronounced shift in activity to the left frontal lobe. In other words, they were calmer and happier than before.” — Psychology Today IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THOSE WITH CLINICAL OR SEVERE DEPRESSION This course is not a therapeutic course and is not a cure for depression. YOUr COURSE FACILITATOR IS JONATHAN WOOD  Jonathan is an experienced facilitator who has been practising insight meditation and mindfulness for over 15 years. He trained as a clinical psychologist (focusing on cognitive behavioural therapy) but his mindfulness teaching and practice also draws on secular Buddhist teachings about the nature of the mind and human experience – which is where the Western mindfulness movement began.  Leaving aside mystical notions such as rebirth, the secular interpretation of this ancient tradition offers down-to-earth guidance about the art of living.  It provides a practical and philosophical context that can deepen mindfulness practice and help establish a pathway towards reduced stress, greater contentment and more genuine relationships with ourselves and others. Over the past decade he has facilitated meditation and mindfulness classes in Australia and New Zealand. Jonathan lives with his wife and children in Brisbane where he works for Queensland Health. He offers individual and group mindfulness teaching at introductory and more advanced levels.   QUESTIONS OR MORE INFORMATION: If you have questions or require more information:  Email: Ring 1 800 138 119 Contact Form: Mindfulness Works website contact form TESTIMONIALS FOR THE MINDFULNESS WORKS INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS & MEDITATION COURSE:“Thank goodness I came across Mindfulness Works.
