The benefits of building rapport during investigation interviews are obvious. Without good rapport an interviewer loses credibility and trust, without which true communication is impossible. An investigator who fails to build rapport with interviewees may never find out the truth about what really happened. Luckily, rapport-building skills can be developed through education and practice.
To help investigators learn strategies for building rapport in investigation interviews, i-Sight Software is offering a free webinar on Thursday August 30th at 2pm EDT. The webinar will be led by Brian Fox, CPA, MBA, and Richard (Rick) Schumacher, CFE.
In the 60-minute webinar, Fox and Schumacher will discuss:
Two effective means for building rapport
The role communication plays in building rapport
Real world examples for building rapport
An interviewer who doesnt have a firm grasp of rapport-building concepts will not obtain any truly relevant information, says Fox. Armed with good rapport, you can elicit truthful answers from your interviewee while eliminating the unnecessary hurdles of distrust and emotionally charged behavior.
The ability to get subjects to trust you in an investigation interview is absolutely necessary, and its a skill that can be learned, says Schumacher. People underestimate the value of trust and many dont realize that its a tool we use every day as investigation professionals, he adds.
The investigation interview is a critical component in any investigation, and its one that a lot of people struggle with, says Joe Gerard, VP of Sales and Marketing at i-Sight. Investigators need soft skills because they are dealing with people and these are the hardest skills to master. The development of investigation interview techniques is a popular topic for our audience, so were excited to have Brian and Rick on board to share their expertise with them.
