Dawn Chasers – 12 Hour Night Trail Run, Wimbleball Lake

Dawn Chasers – 12 Hour Night Trail Run, Wimbleball Lake
Event on 2017-04-22 18:01:00
The stunning Wimbleball Lake on the edge of Exmoor is home to our very first Dawn Chasers 12 Hour Night Trail Run on the night of Saturday 22nd through to Sunday 23rd April 2017. This 12 hour endurance race is open to Soloists as well as Teams of 2, 3-4 and 5-6 people running in relay; making it an accessible yet challenging event for people with wide ranging levels of fitness. We start at 6.01pm, running in the light to familiarise yourself with the routes before night falls when your head torches will lead the way through to Dawn. Official sunrise at 6.01am marks the end of the race and then we come together for a well-deserved breakfast and prize giving. The aim is to complete as many laps of the course as possible within the twelve hour timeframe. Soloists can run continuously for the 12 hours or take breaks. Teams run the race in relay with one runner out on the route at any one time. There are two routes to choose from to keep things interesting and varied – one 8km and the other 16km (which will count as two laps). We welcome hardcore competitors as well as those who are just with us for the great atmosphere or to support a charity close to their heart – so long as everyone in the team has completed at least one lap, walking or running, that’s good enough for us! Places in this inaugural event are limited to 400 runners. The Event Village overlooks the lake and will be a place to come together and socialise overnight if you’re not getting some sleep between your stints on the course. The hub of the Event Village is our main marquee where we want to create a place where competitors can chill out, warm up, re-fuel, stretch and generally hang out. Inside, you can access live updates from the event – so you can keep up to speed with how many laps you have completed and how the other competitors are faring. Just to keep things spicy! Also inside is our all night cafe will keep you supplied with unlimited hot drinks in your Dawn Chasers mug as well as selling soup and snacks. Download the Participant Information Pack here. Race entry For an entry fee of just £70 per person, you'll receive an incredible package: – Dawn Chasers neck tube/buff – Finishers medal – Breakfast (choose three items from a selection of MOMA porridges, fruit salad, Stapleton Yoghurts as well as awesome croissants and pain au chocolate from the local Bawdens the Bakers!) – Dawn Chasers mug and unlimited hot drinks throughout the event (we'll be serving quality ground coffee and teas all night long) – Toilets and hot showers – Camping in one of the South West's most stunning locations which is a Dark Sky Reserve (and in an exclusive area overlooking the lake) – Parking for two days – Water/feed station and toilets on the route – Chip timing and live updates on lap progress IMPORTANT  REGISTRATION INFORMATION:  Soloists should select the "Individual" registration option. Teams of 2, 3-4 and 5-6 should select the "Team" registration option. The first person to register from your team will be the Team Captain and they will need to set up a Team Name and password. That person should then complete their own information and pay for their own place before inviting fellow team mates to join their Team. You can send invitations by viewing your tickets in Eventbrite and clicking on "invite team members". The remaining team members can then follow the link in the email received, enter the password and complete their personal information/pay for their own place online.  Only one team member can register/pay at a time – due to the legal implications of filling out the personal information and medical/risk declarations, it must be read and completed by each individual.  The venue The breathtaking Wimbleball Lake is one of the South West’s most stunning locations and has been nominated to be the first Dark Skies Discovery Site on Exmoor. Exmoor National Park has been designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, the first place in Europe to achieve this prestigious award and only the second in the world. Telescope hire is available from the Outdoor & Active Centre so you can enjoy superb stargazing opportunities. It’s the perfect venue for a night running event! If we are lucky enough to get a clear night then we will enjoy unrivalled views of the stars above, maybe even the Milky Way, and hopefully a stunning sunrise over the lake. Charity fundraising By pushing through the night, we are showing solidarity with those facing their darkest hour or their own struggles; whether it is the long road to recovery, coping with the loss of a loved one or fighting illness. We hope our runners may take the opportunity to raise money for charity. We would love runners to get behind our Charity of the Year, North Devon Hospice, and you can choose to raise sponsorship for this fantastic charity during online registration. We are also delighted that there will be many other charities represented on the night by runners supporting causes close to their own heart. Spectators Friends and family can come along on the Saturday or Sunday (daytime only) and simply pay for parking at the meter. Alternatively,  they can purchase our Spectators Package for £20 per person which includes parking for two days, camping, a Dawn Chasers mug with unlimited hot drinks and a choice of three items at breakfast. Children aged 2-12 years are £10 which includes camping, unlimited hot/cold squash, a choice of two items for breakfast with a carton of juice or bottle of water. Under 2’s are free and they can have a choice of one item for breakfast, if required. Breakfast is by pre-order only with this Spectators Package – there will not be an opportunity to purchase breakfast on the day, but the fantastic Duck Cafe will be open from 10am and serve a wonderful range of food, drinks and snacks. Click here to find out more. Volunteers needed The Dawn Chasers 12 Hour Night Trail Run can not run without a team of fantastic volunteers. If you are taking part and your friends and family are coming along, could they volunteer? It's a great way to get involved and save the cost of the spectators package too! We are looking for people to help across the whole event – during the day on Saturday, through the night and on the Sunday morning. Roles will be either Event Village based or out marshalling on the course and shifts will be approximately four hours long depending on the role. In return, you’ll get a Dawn Chasers mug, unlimited hot drinks, camping, parking, soup/bread and/or breakfast depending on when you are volunteering with us. Please visit our website for more information and to register as a volunteer or get in touch if you have any questions. Click here to find out more.
